The Wedding Shopper

By Monica Chudasama Vaziralli

Consider it therapy. Counselling not on the coach but neatly packed in carry-bags. It’s for that moment when you realise that yes, you are getting married, yes, you don’t know what you want, and yes (of course), you have no time! The wedding shopper can calm your nerves (often playing personalized page with élan).

Yes, you’ll have your traditional jeweller, and yes, some outfits will be heirlooms, but for the most part, you probably will need to look hard and deep to find what you want for your big and fabulous wedding. The thing to do is to give your wedding shopper a detailed picture of what you want your wedding to be like. Classic regal, where elements of old royalty will make you feel like a princess? Regional traditional, where your ethnic culture and traditions create magic? Familial heritage, where you wear your grandparents’ clothes, some lovingly restored, some given a twist?

The more detail you add to the brief, in terms of exact look, little touches that complete the look, and the overall impression that you desire - Swish and risqué? Aloof and inviting? The better your wedding shopper will be able to deliver! The wedding shopper has your entire look in mind through the numerous events and sub-events, and ensures that what you choose complements each ensemble, helping create the perfect picture. The wedding shopper coordinates, cancels and juggles your shopping (and, often, beauty) appointments. They can also coordinate trial runs, and adjustments to the clothes, ensuring that they are delivered to the right place at the right time. Through all this (and more), the critical thing to remember is that the wedding shopper is helping you shop for your wedding, not theirs. As long as that is clear, it matters not whether the wedding is Indian or Greek. It could well turn out to be a fairytale.
