Frozen Moments

By Mehar Sarid

A relatively new trend is the emergence of larger than life ice sculptures for display at your wedding banquet. Visualize a hand-crafted 300 pound creation depicting whittling winged goddess, blowing a trumpet welcoming you into a gorgeous wedding venue. Ice-chiselling wizardry will add that much required dab of sophistication to your wedding event

Each piece, in its own way, is a one of a kind, to complement that special day. Opt for the other symbols of eternal love -the statuette of Venus, oversized floral wreaths and scrolls, little angles carrying love arrows, and wedding symbols like intertwined wedding rings to doves and swans and even traditional indian motifs like the paisleys, or jaalies of a fort carved out of ice. For the inherent stamp of glamour, infuse ice blocks with patterns carved out and filled with colored fluids so they match the murano glass setting reflecting crystal with a myriad of color. Set themed ice sculptures on pedestals in a venue, bedecked with fresh flowers or set them up behind your cocktail bar and light them up. For a more refined swirl, try an upscale presentation at the ice bar by pouring flavoured vodkas or other liquors down an intricate, impressive ice luge and into a stylish serving glass.

Create a magical, gemlike wall effect lasting up to eight hours by freezing silk flowers in the centre of a slab of ice – these delicate flowers would look like magical droplets and form an ethereal backdrop. Consult with the ice sculptor and match your decor, theme and colours to this gleaming, intricate piece de resistance, making a fabulous first impression on guests at your cocktail hours.
