A Collage to Remember

by Raja & Badal

The point of the pre-wedding photo shoot is to relive a few moments of the love that has made the wedding possible. Think of it as a private visual retreat of days gone by, days that nurtured and built the relationship

Each image ought to tell a story or convey a mood. It could be a moment, or a journey to destinations that played a part in your story. You might want to be shot in the ruins of Rajasthan, as touristy as that sounds, because that’s where it all began, or the jungles of northeast India, where you got lost (metaphorically), or that Roman holiday you cannot forget. Pre-wedding photos are your way of constructing the final, cohesive narrative of your love, just as a whole new journey begins.

One distinct difference between the pre-wedding and wedding shoot is that the latter is (or should be) more light-hearted, less solemn than what wedding photos always tend to be (and rightfully so, to capture the sanctity of the occasion). So it is often a great idea to revisit very familiar places: rooms, gardens or restaurants in your town, which you visited with your partner, and which can attain a new and more visual depth through the lens.

Of course, if you are Kim Kardashian, you can shoot the whole thing on a beach, and sell it off to the highest bidder, converting the whole thing into a neat little business plan which will one day, in the not-so-distant future, be taught at a noted B-school. But most likely you are not. That, therefore, is another story.
